Florida in talks with Georgetown about finishing cancelled game

20

November

Florida and Georgetown athletic officials have been in preliminary talks about the possibility of completing the Nov. 9 Navy-Marine Corps Classic game that was cancelled due to condensation on the playing surface on the makeshift floor of the USS Bataan. The most likely date is Jan. 2, and the game would have to be completed prior to the start of the SEC and Big East seasons, Florida coach Billy Donovan said.

"We would love to complete the game if Georgetown is willing,'' Mike Hill, UF Executive Associate A.D. for External Affairs said in a statement. "Their initial reaction was positive. The City of Jacksonville has been terrific in trying to put this together. We hope to know something soon."

Donovan said the game most likely would be played at the Jacksonville Coliseum and by rule, would pick up where it was cancelled. Florida led 27-23 at halftime.

"Our school has reached out to Georgetown about completing, finishing the game,'' Donovan said. "There's some dates, there's some possibilities of that happening. I think our school is waiting to hear back from Georgetown about the possibility of that happening. Our school is in favor of making that happen.''

Florida athletic officials would be in favor of helping Georgetown with travel expenses if a date can be agreed upon.
