Florida-Troy gameday information

No. 1 Florida (1-0) vs. Troy (0-1)

When/Where: Saturday, 12:21 p.m., Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Gainesville.

TV/RADIO: Ch. 38. WDAE-AM 620 (Tampa-St. Pete); WWJB-AM 1450 (Brooksville); WXCV-FM 95.3 (Crystal River); WDCF-AM 1350 (Dade City);WZHR-AM 1400 (Zephyrhlls).

COACHES: UF -  Urban Meyer (45-9, fifth season, 84-17 overall). TROY -  Larry Blakeney (144-74-1 in 19 seasons at Troy).

SERIES HISTORY: Florida leads 1-0. The Gators defeated Troy 59-31 in 2007. Then-No. 4 Florida scored on its first seven possessions, and QB Tim Tebow was 18-of-25 for 236 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 17 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns. The Gators blocked to punts and had one interception (Justin Trattou) and a fumble recovery (Dustin Doe).

ABOUT THE GATORS: Florida is coming off a 62-3 win over Charleston Southern and one week away from the much-anticipated showdown with Tennessee, so keeping the Gators focused on Troy has been a priority for coach Urban Meyer and his staff this week. The early kickoff presents the possibility of serious heat problems, and Meyer believes that will give the Gators an additional edge. The coaches insist that even though Troy is coming off a loss to Bowling Green last week, this team will be a much tougher challenge than the season-opener. Meyer keeps reminding the Gators that Troy led LSU 31-3 last season before a late-game collapse. "Schematically they have very good personnel.'' Meyer said. "I can't explain what happened to them in that first game, other than that other team (Bowling Green) played very well.''

ABOUT TROY: The Trojans are three-time defending Sun Belt champions. Contrary to what Meyer says, this isn't the same  eam that nearly upset LSU last season. Troy returns eight starters on offense, including FB DaJuan Harris of Brooksville, but just four defensive starters. In the season-opener, Troy had eight players make their first collegiate start and 22 players who saw their first playing time for the Trojans.

HISTORICAL NOTE: Troy is 1-9 all-time against teams from the SEC. The Gators are 12-1 against teams from the Sun Belt. Their lone loss was vs. North Texas in 1947.

DID YOU KNOW?: Troy has had 10 players named to watch lists for the various national awards, trailing only Florida (12) and Oklahoma (11).

OF NOTE: If you're going to the game, there is a chance of an extremly high heat index, and Florida athletic officials are reminding fans to dress in loose fitting clothes and wear hats.
Several initiatives will be in place to help fans deal with the heat including: cool Misting Tents in the concourses of the north, south and west sides of the stadium, additional fans on east side concourse; 10,000 Gator hand fan giveaway at gates courtesy of Mid-Florida Heating & Air; sunscreen and cooling hand towel giveaway at Verizon Wireless Gator FanFest outside Gate 2 of the O'Connell Center; free samples of Pepsi also provided at FanFest, plastic cups with ice for free at concessions stands; 12-Ounce waters on sale at concessions stands for $1;  100 Water fountains operational in stadium; cooling vehicles on the west side to supplement aid stations; officers at gates looking out for fans in heat distress and directing to aid stations; Stephen C. O'Connell Center at Gate 1 open for football fans during the second half to watch the game on the big screens and cool down (must have ticket to enter).
