Florida will play both Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel in season opener against Bowling Green
Since fall camp begin Aug. 3, the biggest issue surrounding the Florida football team has been who will be the starting quarterback? Florida coach Will Muschamp said today the two remain nearly dead even, and he will decide on a starter sometime next week, but both QB's will play against Bowling Green on Sept. 1.
The Gators will practice in the stadium today, participating in some scrimmage-like, situational drills. Muschamp was forced to cancel Tuesday's scrimmage due to bad weather. He said both quarterbacks will continue to have the opportunity to separate themselves in the QB race, but for now both will play.
"I met with both quarterbacks this morning and both guys will play in the first gamem'' Muschamp said. "How we will manage that, we’ll still be going through this week. They both deserve the right to play. They’ve earned that, and they both deserve the right to start. They’ve both had really good camps. They are right down the middle as far as 62, 63 completion percentage – both of them. Their numbers are very similar, whether it’s in one-minute, third down, we’ve taken the details down all the way, Brent and I have. So both guys are very even and our football team has got great confidence in both of them. I told both of them today, the last position I’m worried about is quarterback. I feel very comfortable about both guys. And we will determine who will take the first snap this week, as we work through the week. I haven’t made that decision in how we will rotate the guys. We will continue to discuss that, Brent (Pease, offensive coordinator) and I, as we work through the week. But we feel very confident in both guys.''
