Florida women begin NCAA Tournament play today vs. Ohio State
The No. 9 seeded Florida women's basketball team will play its first round NCAA Tournament game today against 8th-seeded Ohio State, in Bowling Green, KY.
Tipoff is at 12:15 p.m. on ESPN2.
The Gators will be making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. This is the first-ever meeting between Florida and Ohio State.
Florida enters today's game having won six of their last 10 games. While Florida boasts a roster that includes five seniors, only two - Ndidi Madu and Azania Stewart - have NCAA Tournament experience.
Ohio State is making its school-record 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, all coming under Jim Foster who spent the previous 11 years as Vanderbilt’s head coach.
The Buckeyes are led by a pair of 20-point scoring guards in senior Samantha Prahalis and junior Tayler Hill, who average 20.1 and 20.3 points per game, respectively. Prahalis was named the 2012 Big Ten Player of the Year, while Hill was a first team and All-Defensive Team selection. Junior
guard Amber Stokes, the 2012 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, contributes 7.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game .
Ohio State averages 75.1 points as the nation’s 11th-ranked offensive, but Florida is holding opponents this season to 60.1 points per game.
