Florida women to face Temple in NCAA first round
The Florida women's basketball team will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006 when the Gators travel to play Temple Sunday afternoon in the Trenton region of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
"To be able to sit here tonight with this team and not worry about if your name was going to be called, but instead just wait to see we’re you’re seeded and where you’re going, I think that says a lot about how far this program has come in a short amount of time and how much credit this special group of women deserve for bringing us here this quickly,'' second-year coach Amanda Butler said.
But the Gators' road to a title won't be easy. Florida will play at Storrs, CT., in a region that includes No. 1 seed, and undefeated UConn.
If the Gators defeat Temple, they will face the Huskies in the second round (assuming UConn doesn't stumble against 16th seed Vermont.
"We're not even thinking about Connecticut right now,'' senior guard Sha Brooks said. "Our focus is on Temple. That's who we face first. If things work out, then we'll worry about Connecticut.''
This is Florida's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.
