Florida women join "We Back Pat'' campaign tonight at home against Alabama

Fresh off a 62-58 home win over LSU this past Sunday, the Florida women's basketball team will host Alabama at 7 p.m. today, hoping to continue with the momentum it gained with a big victory earlier this week.

And if recent history is any indication, tonight's game should be a thriller. Each of the last three games between Florida and Alabama has been decided by six points or less.

"We have a healthy respect for Alabama," UF coach Amanda Butler said. "We respect every team in our league. It's real easy for someone to lose. We had a stretch last year when we lost four in a row and then beat some of the best teams in the conference. Alabama's SEC record is in no way reflective of what they are capable of. They are very athletic and had a super non-conference season. They've shown us in the last few years that we have got to play our best or we'll be disappointed at the end of the game."

Florida has played 46 games over the last two-plus seasons with outcomes decided by 10 points or less, posting a 25-21 record in those tight ballgames. Eight games fit into that category this year, when UF has posted a 3-5 record. All five SEC games this season have been decided by six points or less.

The Crimson Tide (10-9, 0-5 SEC) has lost their last five games, all in league play and two of those decided by 10 points or less.

Junior forward Jennifer George continues to lead UF in scoring (13.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.6 rpg), which ranks third in the SEC. She has posted 10 double-doubles this year - and 14 in her career).  Sophomore Jasmine Robinson leads Alabama with 12.3 points per game, connecting on 35.1 percent (20-57) from beyond the arc. Junior Erin Hogue leads the Tide on the boards, collecting 6.6 per outing.

Tonight the Gators will be wearing purple shirts during their pregame warm-ups, ahd the Gator staff will wear them during the game as part of the SEC campaign "We Back Pat", which is a week-long initiative focused on bringing awareness and recognition to The Pat
Foundation Fund of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and its fight against Alzheimer's disease.
