Florida women's basketball team plays Vanderbilt in final road game tonight

February

The first time the Florida and Vanderbilt women's basketball teams met this season, the Commodores survived with a 103-97 double-overtime game in Gainesville earlier this month.

The Gators will play their final regular season road game tonight at 9 against Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym in Nashville.

Florida is coming off a midweek bye after earning a 78-63 victory over Mississippi State this past Sunday in Gainesville. The 14-point win was Florida’s largest in an SEC game this year.

It's been a tough season for the Gators. Seventeen of UF’s 28 games this year have been decided by 10 points or fewer, with 12 being six-point difference. The Gators are 9-8 in games decided by 10 points or less this season.

The Gators face a team tonight that hasn't been an easy foe in the past. Vanderbilt has won seven straight against the Gators, as well as nine of the last 10 meetings. Florida’s seven-game losing streak to Vanderbilt is its longest active slide against any SEC team. Florida’s last win in the series was back on Jan. 22, 2006, when the Gators topped the Commodores, 73-59, in the O’Connell Center.  The last time the Gators topped Vanderbilt in Nashville, however, was back on Jan. 11, 2004, when Florida won the 92-83 shoot-out.

"You have to be ready for whatever Vanderbilt is going to throw out,'' Florida coach Amanda Butler said. "They are a very crafty team, probably the best team we've played all year, maybe every year. They play their roles perfectly. They do exactly what they are supposed to do, and they hardly ever do what they are not supposed to do. That's really neat for a team to have that kind of discipline. We've got to be ready for all of that.''
