Florida's Josh Shaw, Lynden Trail to transfer
As you might have expected in the aftermath of a 6-6 regular season, the transfer carousel has started turning for the Gators.
Florida coach Will Muschamp announced today that redshirt freshman S Josh Shaw and redshirt freshman DE Lynden Trail have decided to transfer.
"We wish Lynden and Josh the best of luck in the future and we certainly appreciate their contributions to the football program,” Muschamp said.
Shaw, of Palmdale, Calif. appeared in 10 games this season and had 22 tackles. He missed the Furman game when he went home that week to be near his ailing grandfather, whom Muschamp said Shaw was extremely close to. Shaw was rated the No. 3 cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com.
“I have enjoyed my time at Florida but I feel like I need to be closer to my family right now,” Shaw said in a statement. “This is not a football decision, this is a family decision. I need to be with my family.”
Trail, who was rated the No. 7 weakside defensive end out of Miami Booker T. Washington by Rivals.com, has not appeared in any games during his tenure with the Gators.
“I have decided that I would like to pursue opportunities elsewhere,” Trail said. “I want to thank the fans and Gator Nation for their support. I’ll always be a Gator at heart.”
The transfers are the 11th since Muschamp took over this past January, and most likely won't be the last, considering the struggles the Gators are currently having.
Muschamp said he planned to spend the next two weeks recruiting, and he has plenty of offers he can make. In January he'll have 56 scholarship players out of the maximum 85.
