Florida's Tim Tebow a Maxwell Award Finalist
Tim Tebow will get an opportunity to become a two-time Maxwell Award winner, but the Davey O'Brien will go to someone else this season.
Tebow was named one of three finalists on Monday for the O'Brien Award, given the the nation's best all-around collegiate player. But the junior quarterback didn't make the cut on the Davey O'Brien list - which he also won last season - for the nation's best quarterback.
The O'Brien finalists are Graham Harrell of Texas Tech, Colt McCoy of Texas and Sam Bradford of Oklahoma. Harrell and McCoy are also Maxwell finalists.
Florida coach Urban Meyer said Monday, before the finalists were announced, that Tebow is a victim of his own success. Last year's Heisman-winning numbers were so phenomenal, he's being measured by that standard.
Tebow is the only Florida player nominated for any of the national awards being presented on the show.
The winners will be announced at The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards, which will air live on ESPN, Thursday, Dec. 11, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
