Former Armwood standout Matt Patchan can't help but be himself

Patchan Matt Patchan's appearance at Tuesday's media day may be his last outing with the media for awhile.

The former Armwood standout has a way of saying whatever comes to his mind, and he did it again on Tuesday. Patchan called Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin a "bozo'.

When asked what he might say if he passed Kiffin on the street, Patchan told the Gainesville Sun: "I probably wouldn't say anything to him. I've got nothing to say to that guy. He's a bozo.''

Later, Patchan talked more to me about Kiffin's well-documented comments about the Gators and Florida coach Urban Meyer. He said you have to learn to not let negative comments get to you.

"If you were to search every message board you would find stuff about every single player that somebody said, and if you take ever single message like that personally and go out and hunt those people down and kill them, you're killing a lot of people, you now? As far as Lane Kiffin disrespecting our program, that is awful. But our main goal and our focus has always been to get to Atlanta. He's in the way, we still got to get to Atlanta.''

Part of what makes Patchan an interesting character is that he's not afraid to say what he's thinking. Unfortunately for him, those are the kind of inflammatory comments UF coach Urban Meyer does not want his players making right now.
