Former Gator John Brown headed to Mississippi junior college

John Brown, the former Gator who was ranked the nation's third-best defensive tackle coming out of Lakeland High, will play football this fall at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Brown, who was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2007, was plagued by eligibility problems and injuries during his tenure with the Gators. He received a redshirt in 2007 and didn't see any action, then was used sparingly last season.

Northeast Mississippi coach Ricky Smither said Brown had no hard feelings against Florida, but was looking for a fresh start. He will play defensive tackle. And because he is not trying to play for a chance to join any one specific college, Brown will most likely have an open recruitment when his one year at Northest is completed.
