Former Gator Lisa Raymond earns top seed in 2012 Olympics draw

A few weeks after winning the 2012 mixed doubles championship, former Gator Lisa Raymond has earned the top seed in the 2012 Olympics doubles draw.

The 32-team Olympic doubles event will be played on the same courts that have been home to Wimbledon, The Championships. As the top seeds, Raymond and Liezel Huber received the only first-round bye and begin action against the winner of the match between Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska and Urszula Radwanska and Slovakia’s Dominika Cubulkova and Daniela Hantuchova on July 30.

On July 8, Raymond paired with Mike Bryan and won the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Championship. Mixed doubles will be played at the Olympic Games for the first time since 1924. Teams will be selected and announced in the next few days and play will begin on Aug. 1.

Raymond helped lead the Gators to the 1992 national championships, and won the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Singles Titles.
