Former Gator McCaslin arrested in Tampa

Eugene McCaslin, a running back on Florida's 1996 national championship team who later started at linebacker for the Gators, was arrested early Saturday on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and assault on a law enforcement officer.

McCaslin, 31, remained in county jail Saturday morning, held without bond. He was arrested at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at 2:30 a.m. and booked into jail at 3:50 a.m.

McCaslin, who played at Jesuit and Chamberlain in high school, was a freshman on Florida's 1996 team, later moving to defense as a starting linebacker in 1999. He was drafted by the Packers in 1999 but played in only one game, and was signed by the Bucs but never played. When the Times listed the top 99 players ever to play football in Hillsborough County in 1999, McCaslin was included.
