Former Texas Tech coach may be joining Gators' staff

Incoming Florida head coach Will Muschamp is reportedly in discussions with former Texas Tech defensive coordinator James Willis about a position on his staff.

According to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, Willis, who was in his first season with the Red Raiders, resigned on Sunday, the same day Texas Tech arrived in Dallas to begin preparation for the TicketCity Bowl against Northwestern on New Year's Day.

Willis was reportedly in discussion with Mushcamp about a job without the knowledge of Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville who later discovered it through others. The Avalanche-Journal reported that the two came to a "mutual agreeement" that Willis should leave.

Willis served on the Auburn staff as an assistant under Tuberville.
