Gator basketball players to remain suspended until legal issues are resolved

Florida basketball players Cody Larson and Erik Murphy will remain indefinitely suspended from the team until their legal issues involving and alleged car break-in are completely resolved, Florida coach Billy Donovan said Tuesday.

On Monday, the St. John's County State Attorney's office reduced the charges against Larson and Murphy from felony burglary to misdemeanor criminal trespass stemming from an incident in April when the two allegedly attempted to break into a car in the early morning hours in St. Augustine.

"Right now they are indefinitely suspended,'' Donovan said. "I think one of the things that happens, for me, is to wait and see what actually happens. I think there’s a lot of things they had to go through. For example, there was a report or the perception that Josh Adel (team manager)l was “the lookout.’’ That wasn’t the case. So for me, them getting through this and finding out exactly what they’re being charged with and what’s going to happen – and then once it happens – then me stepping in to react I’ll do.

"But I also know that in a lot of these situations when they happen, they kind of have to play themselves out,'' Donovan added. "As I said before, I’m disappointed with what’s happened. I don’t think that those kids and their families are a reflection of what has happened. But I do think that this thing needs to get resolved. And once it gets resolved, and I find out what the resolution is, then I think I can react from there. But until that happens right now those guys are going to be suspended. But it’s not like there’s a whole lot going on right now to suspend them from. We’ll wait and see what happens.''
