Gator golfer Tyson Alexander earns first career win
Senior Tyson Alexander earned the first individual title of his career on Tuesday with a victory at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, leading the Florida men's golf team to a second place finish on Tuesday at the Reunion Golf and Country Club.
Alexander entered the final round one stroke away from the lead, held by fellow UF senior Tim McKenney. After carding a career-low 64 in his first round and a one-under 71 in his second, Alexander was able to finish strong, carding a 70 (-2) on the final day. He entered the turn at two-under after carding a birdie on hole four and responded to a bogey on seven with two-straight birdies. After making three-consecutive pars, he made a birdie on 13 and a bogey on 14 before closing out his final round with four pars in a row. Alexander finished the tournament with a season-low 205 (63-71-70, -10), just one stroke shy of his career-low tournament score of 204 (2008 SunTrust Gator Invitational).
McKenney finished second in the tournament.
The Gators will compete in the SEC Championships, April 16-18, at Sea Island, Ga.
