Gator Will Hill says there's no slacking at the DB position for the Gators
With five players at the safety and cornerback positions that arguably could start for any school in the nation, Florida's preseason practices are about as intense for the Gator safeties as anybody on the field.
The roster includes Ahmad Black, Major Wright, Will Hill, Dorian Munroe, Joe Haden and Janoris Jenkins - all of whom started and/or saw significant action last season.
Hill said there's never any room for taking a play off.
"It's always going to be tough,'' Hill said. "You've got so many players out here where everybody is capable of going first-round (NFL), everybody here is a good D-1 football player. So if you mess up one time, you've got so much competition, somebody could easily replace you. So you've got to be on your P's and Q's all the time.''
Hill saw extensive action in every game with the exception of Arkansas as a freshman last season and was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team. The good news for Florida fans is that he says he'll be much better this year.
"It's much easier,'' he said. "Last year at this time I was struggling. But now, now I'm more calmed and relaxed.''
Hill was also a key special teams player - he led the team with 22 special teams tackles. And he'll be back again for more this year.
"Special teams is the key here at Florida,'' Hill said. "Without playing special teams, you can't play. That's Urban's motto. And that's the way you come through and progress. So I'm on the kickoff team again.''
