Gator women to play for SEC soccer title tonight
The SEC women's soccer championship will be decided tonight when No. 8 Florida plays at No. 17 South Carolina in a winner-take-all game.
The match will begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on SUN Sports in north and central Florida and on Fox Sports Florida in other parts of the state.
Florida and South Carolina are tied atop the SEC standings with 8-1-1 records in conference play. Sole possession of the SEC regular season title goes to the winner. In the event of a tie, the teams will share the title.
Florida is seeking its 11th SEC title, while the Gamecocks are trying to win their first.
"It's not going to be easy we know that,''UF soccer coach Becky Burleigh said. "South Carolina is good at home, also. They are a very competitive team that has had great results. They pretty much have mirrored us in terms of this season. Very similar records, identical SEC records. I think for us, we definitely have to minimize their chances. If we keep good possession of the ball and make them chase, that usually bodes well for us. And we have to finish the opportunities we do have. They are a stingy defense and we are going to have to be clinical in our finishing to get one past them.''
