Gators' Alex Tyus to test NBA waters
A couple of hours after Florida coach Billy Donovan told a group of reporters that he didn't expect any other players to leave the team, junior forward Alex Tyus said he plans to submit his paperwork to the NBA to potentially enter the NBA Draft.
Tyus, who left the team at the end of the 2008-09 season with the intent to transfer but then returned, has until May 8 to decide whether to keep his name in the NBA draft or return for his senior season. He will not hire an agent. Tyus averaged 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds this past season.
"Alex has not filed his paperwork at this point in time, but we anticipate he will in the days to come,'' UF associate athletics director of communication Fred Demarest said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Donovan said sophomore guard Ray Shipman's decision to transfer was based on a desire for more playing time, but he didn't believe any other players had plans to leave, adding "I don't anticipate being in the situation where they are looking to make a change.''
