Gators to be without starting kicker Caleb Sturgis for Alabama game
Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis will not play when the Gators face No. 1 Alabama Saturday night.
Florida coach Urban Meyer said Thursday evening that Sturgis was listed as "probable", and that although he has been struggling with a herniated disc, he expected him to be able to play through it.
But Sturgis did not make the trip to Tuscaloosa with the team on Friday, and his status beyond Saturday night's game is uncertain.
Senior punter Chas Henry is expected to take over the kicking duties. A 2009 Ray Guy Award finalist, Henry has been the Gators' punter since the 2007 season, but is also a former high school kicker. He set a school record with a 52-yard field goal as a high school junior.
Freshman kicker Brad Phillips, a graduate of Gainesville Buchholz who has not seen action in the Gators' first four games, is expected to handle the kickoffs.
