Gators to begin to narrow the search for starters
Following today's scrimmage, the Florida coaching staff will begin to narrow the focus in terms of deciding which players have shown they are ready to earn starting roles.
Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said so far the staff has been looking at the team as a whole, in a broad-based sense. Now, with a little more than two weeks before their opening game, the Gators will begin to narrow the focus. And the scrimmage is a good way for players to make an impact.
"It's a really good opportunity for people to put on tape who they are,'' Quinn said. "And that's what I'd like to see, in terms of autographing your performance in this scrimmage, of showing who you are as a player. I'd like to see the communication be really good, I'd like to see the busts go down. I'd like to see us focus on some takeaways where we left the scrimmage, and getting our hands on some balls, whether it's by fumbles or by interceptions. Those are some of the things that I'm looking for. From the individual player, I want to see them put on tape who they are, say this is a guy who can be counted on and trusted with all the calls. So we're kind of aiming in that direction heading into this weekend.''
