Gators' Chandler Parsons not upset by SEC postseason omission
Florida junior forward Chandler Parsons is Florida's most improved player this season, and you could make a strong case that he's the Gators' MVP.
But when the SEC coaches postseason All-SEC team was released earlier this week, it was struggling guard Erving Walker and freshman guard Kenny Boynton who were honored. Parsons didn't make first or second team.
As the Gators prepare to face Auburn in the first round of the SEC men's basketball tournament, Parsons said he wasn't upset about not being selected.
"Honestly it doesn’t matter to me,'' Parsons said. "I haven't even seen the team to know. But as long as my team keeps winning and we get to where we want to get to, no individual accolades are needed for me. I didn’t get many in high school and I don’t expect to get many here.''
Parsons is averaging 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds and has been in double figures in seven of the last nine games.
UF coach Billy Donovan said it's difficult for coaches to determine the teams because so many factors are involved in the selection.
"It's hard because it's other coaches that are voting, and they're looking at different things,'' Donovan said. "You know, you could have a situation where you've got an East team playing a West team and a guy may have a great game and really, really play well against them and may leave a different impression on a coach. I think for Chandler he certainly should have been considered, but there's a lot of good players in our league that maybe some coaches thought maybe were a little more deserving than Chandler.''
Donovan said it doesn't deter from what Chandler has done.
"In my opinion, it doesn't really take away from the way he's performed, the strides he's made as a player, and how much better he's gotten,'' he said. "Those awards, although they're great and it's terrific, I think Chandler's total focus and goal was more geared towards our team than that. . . I think he's terrific. I love coaching him. I wouldn't trade him. I think he's one of the better wings in our league. I do believe that.''
