Gators close things out for the weekend; hope to get healthy
Florida participated in its final practice on Thursday, and now the Gators will take Friday, Saturday and Sunday off before returning on Monday to prepare for next weekend's game at LSU.
Gators coach Urban Meyer said he wants the players to use the down time to heal and relax, including several starters who are nursing injuries.
"We’re always concerned (about injuries), but I think we’re in pretty good shape,'' Meyer said. "You take Marcus Gilbert (elbow/bicep contusion), (Maurkice) Pouncey (shoulder), (Mike) Pouncey (ankle) - that's just SEC football. We’re concerned with Brandon Antwine and his shoulder, but they say he should be able to play through it. The guy that we need is Lawrence Marsh, he’s had that ankle sprain now going on his fifth week. We’re going to try to get him back on Monday. Other than that, other than the illnesses we’re dealing with, we’re in decent shape.''
The Gators continue to battle the flu bug, with four more players sick this week- scout team QB Andrew Blaylock, DE Kedric Johnson, CB Markihe Anderson and S Will Hill.
"It really slowed down, then we had more,'' Meyer said. "The good thing is they are off Friday, Saturday and Sunday so we’re hoping that will help.''
