Gators to face "much improved" Georgia team this week

Following Kentucky's 44-31 loss to Georgia Saturday night, Wildcats' coach Joker Phillips said Georgia may be the most physical team Kentucky has faced this season.

That's not saying much for Florida, which defeated Kentucky earlier this year. But it may say a heck of a lot about the Bulldogs and how they're playing these days.

After beginning the season 1-4, Georgia (4-4) is currently on a three-game winning streak as it enters Saturday's annual showdown against Florida. The Gators are going in the opposite direction, coming off a bye week and on a three-game losing streak.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said having an opponent talk about the Bulldogs' physical toughness is more evidence of what he already believed - Georgia is winning now because they are a much better team than earlier this season.

"I'll tell you what, that's (Phillips' comments) music to my ears quite frankly because those are some of the very things we were wanting people to feel about us,'' Richt said. "We wanted to earn people's respect and it sounds like we earned their respect. We wanted people to be able to look at our film and say these guys play hard, these guys play with a physical nature and I thought our guys played hard. We're just a better team than we were a month ago and thankfully we're getting some wins to go along with it.''
