Florida's second round NCAA Tournament game on Friday turned out to be a surprisingly easy victory.

Despite shooting 17.4 percent from beyond the arc, the Gators dominated inside for a 71-45 win over the Cavaliers.

The Gators advance to play No. 15 seed Norfolk State on Sunday. The Spartans stunned No. 2 seed Missouri on Friday afternoon, earning their first NCAA Tournament win.

Florida guards Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker combined to go 6-of-18 and 0-for-7 from 3-point range.

“How did we win?’’ junior guard Kenny Boynton jokingly said when asked what he would have said if someone had told him the Gators would have that kind of shooting day and still win. “What did we do?  I think we played defense, that was our big thing today. We held them to 45 points and that was our biggest concern. We did a great job defending on the 3-point line, in the first half they were 0-for-7, so that was the biggest difference.’’

Florida center Patric Young admitted he was slightly intimidated heading into the game against Virginia's leading scorer Mike Scott, but said he eventually settled down. Scott finished with 15 points and six rebounds.
