Gators fall to Kentucky 89-77

The Florida men's basketball team fell to 0-2 in SEC play for the first time since 1996 after a 89-77 loss to Kentucky Tuesday night.

Florida led early, then fell behind by 15 with 14:30 remaining in the game.

But aided by consecutive 3-pointers from sophomore guard Walker and a layup by center Vernon Macklin, the Gators cut the lead to 68-66 with 7:59 remaining.

Florida (11-5) tied the game at 72 with 5:14 remaining, but Kentucky rallied and outscored Florida 17-5 the rest of the way to earn the victory.

The loss ended Florida’s five-game home winning streak over the Wildcats, dating back to 2004, and Kentucky extended its season-long winning streak to 17. 

“I thought our guys gave a great effort,’’ Donovan said. “They battled on the floor as well as they could. They gave it all they had and left it all on the floor.’’

Kentucky guard Eric Bledsoe had a game-high 25 points, while freshman phenom John Wall added 19 and six assists. UF;s Walker had a team-high 20 points, while Alexs Tyus added 17 points and seven rebounds.
