Gators' forward Erik Murphy out with torn meniscus

Florida junior forward Erik Murphy most likely has a torn meniscus, but the extent of the injury is still unknown. Murphy injured the knee in practice on Thanksgiving Day, and was on crutches at Friday night's game against Jacksonville.

"Murphy’s got a meniscus tear, at least that’s what it appears to be,'' Florida coach Billy Donovan said. "With the holidays going on the doctors really, to be honest with you, have been pretty kind in terms of trying to get this thing evaluated as quickly as possible. But A lot of the doctors are looking at it on their computer and until they can actually get in there and look at it, they’ll find out a little bit more. But it does appear he has some form of a meniscus tear. How severe, how long he’s going to be out, we’ll probably find out a lot more on Monday. There’s nothing pressing that we’re going to find out. He’s out for the game here on Monday and I would assume he would be out next week as well. What the procedures would be in terms of getting him back, if he requires surgery or rest, we’re going to probably have a better feel for that on Monday. The concern that it is some form of a meniscus tear. We just don’t know how severe.''

Murphy started four games for the Gators, averaging 10 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
