Gators' forward Walter Pitchford is leaving the team
Walter Pitchford, a little-used reserve on the Florida basketball team, has decided to transfer in the hopes of being closer to home, Florida announced today.
"Walter has decided to transfer somewhere closer to home due to extenuating family circumstances,'' Florida coach Billy Donovan said Wednesday. "We appreciate Walter's contributions to our team this past year, and we wish him the best both on and off the court."
Pitchford is a 6-foot-10 forward from Grand Rapids, MI., who appeared in 13 games this past season. He played a total of 22 minutes, scoring six points and four rebounds.
“It’s been great learning from coach Donovan and competing with my teammates here at Florida,'' Pitchford said. "I made this decision because I need to be closer to my family at this time.”
Pitchford's departure leaves the Gators with one available scholarship for the 2012-13 season.
