Gators get ready for Tennessee with 39-0 win over UAB
Florida gained 512 yards on offense, including 300 rushing and senior RB Chris Rainey had his second consecutive stellar performance on the way to a 39-0 win over UAB Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The shutout for first-year coach Will Muschamp ties former Florida coach Galen Hall for the quickest in Florida history. Hall had one in his second game in 1984. It was Florida’s first shoutout since Nov. 18, 2006, a 62-0 win over Western Carolina, and UAB’s first time without scoring in 58 games.
Rainey had a career-high 162 total yards, including a 19-yard touchdown run with 9:02 remaining in the third quarter, and quarterback John Brantley went 12-of-19 for 195 yards.
Senior RB Jeff Demps suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter, Muschamp said, and his status is unknown. TE Jordan Reed suffered a hamstring injury, but Muschamp said he thinks he will be fine.
