Gators' John Brantley continues to improve, still probable for Georgia game

Florida coach Will Muschamp said today that senior QB John Brantley is progressing in recovery and will start Saturday against Georgia as of right now.

"John Brantley has continued to progress pretty well through the week and I expect, obviously, him to play on Saturday unless something shocking comes up through the latter part of the week,'' Muschamp said.

Brantley was injured late in the first half of the Oct. 1 game against Alabama and has not played since. Florda offensive coordinator Charlie Weis said the biggest concern in ensuring Brantley is ready to play is his mobility and ability to throw the ball. Muschamp said he's looked good in limited practice so far.

"Well he's throwing it well,'' he said. "He's throwing it well there in practice. We'll progress through today and Thursday and on with our walkthrough on Friday to see how he continues to improve. There's no question psychologically as a senior quarterback and how well he was playing, and how well we were playing offensively when he was in the game, it's a psychological advantage for our entire team. The quarterback position is such a critical position on your football team, different than any other from the standpoint of having that guy that's been there, done that, that's had success, that gives confidence in both sides of the ball and special teams and it creates some good momentum for your team."
