Gators' Kenny Boynton welcomes the challenge of guarding the best
Kenny Boynton has been the Gators' go-to guy on defense all season long. Now 24 hours after taking on his most challenging opponent - BYU's Jimmer Fredette - Boynton is preparing for the challenge of Butler's Shelvin Mack. The junior from Lexington, KY., is averaging 15.6 points and 4.3 assists per game.
"I definitely look forward to the challenge,'' Boynton said. "Shelvin Mack, that's definitely going to be my guy. I've just got to do a great job on him. I think it's going to start with me and whoever is on (Matt) Howard. Those two guys, they kind of energize their team. Shelvin Mack is bigger than me so I've got to do a great job of keeping him out of the lane.''
Boynton said he expects a much different challenge than the one he faced against Fredette.
"Last night Jimmer kind of settled for jump shots,'' he said. "Shelvin Mack tomorrow I think he's going to drive to the hole and I've got to do a great job of staying in front of him. He can shoot it from outside also, but he's bigger than me. I know sometimes he's going to score. If he shoots, I just want to be in his face. I don't want him to get to the hole but if he gets to the hole hopefully I'll have help down there.''
