Gators land eight on coaches preseason All-SEC teams, but only one first-team selection

The preseason SEC Coaches All-SEC team was announced today and Florida had eight players represented, but only kicker Caleb Sturgis was among the first team selections.

Defending national champion Alabama and defending SEC champion LSU each have 11 players named to the team.  The Tigers have a league-high seven players named to the first-team, three on the second-team and one on the third-team. The Crimson Tide have four players selected to the first-team, four on the second-team and three on the third-team.  Arkansas is third with 10 total players selected, four on the first-team and three on each of the second and third teams.

Sturgis is one of nine first-team selections from last year's coaches All-SEC postseason team. He was 22-of-26 in 2011, with a season long 55-yard kick and was successful on all 31 of his PAT attempts.

The Gators have three players on the second team defense: DT Sharrif Floyd, LB Jon Bostic and S Matt Elam.  Floyd played in the final 11 games of the season in 2011 and recorded 46 tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss. Bostic started every game at middle linebacker and led the team with 94 tackles and tied for second with 10.0 tackles for loss. Elam led the team last season in tackles-for-loss (11), pass breakups (seven), and forced fumbles (two).

Andre Debose was named the second-team's return specialist. In 2011 he led UF with 19 kick returns and 495 kick return yards.

Gator OL Xavier Nixon was a third-team selection on offense, while DL Dominique Easley and LB Jelani Jenkins were third-team selections on defense.

Easley had 37 tackles and finished fifth on the team with 7.5 tackles for loss in 12 games last season. Jenkins finished third in tackles (75) and second in breakups (six).
