Gators' Lerentee McCray likes how early practice is shaping up
There have been just two practices and the Gators will be in full pads for the first time today, but junior Lerentee McCray says practice is going well so far.
"The first couple of days we’ve been going hard,' McCray said Monday. "The first couple of days of camp, we’ve got to get into the groove of things, we’ve got to get into football speed. We’ve been training hard the whole summer, so we’ve just got to get back into football shape right now.''
McCray admits the first two days haven't been of any major consequence, but said it's vital nonetheless.
"The first couple of days without pads, it’s just getting the reads down, working on our technique and fundamentals, staying low, playing with pad level, DB’s getting their coverage down, things like that,'' he said. "And communication.''
McCray expects to see time at two positions this fall, so he's having to concentrate more to perfect them both.
"I’m playing both end and linebacker on different packages,'' he said. "It’s going pretty good. Right now, it’s kind of like (he has) mental lapses sometimes, but I’ve got to do it to help the team out to win.''
