Gators' Maurkice Pouncey selected No. 18 in NFL draft

Florida center Maurkice Pouncey has been selected No. 18 overall in the NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pouncey started all three seasons as a Gator.

He is the highest center selected in UF history, and the fifth UF offensive lineman selected in the first round. Pouncey will help bolster a Steelers' offense that was 19th in the league in rushing last season.

"I’m really pleased for him,'' Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio said. "He’s really just a great role model for Florida, for his family and for football. He’s handling everything great. His stock is just going to continue to rise because when these NFL teams get around him and they realize just what a great guy he is, how bright he is and what a football guy he is, I think he’ll just keep growing with them. So I’m proud of him for all that, and happy for him. This is his dream and it’s going to come true for him.''
