Gators plan to use low expectations to their advantage
The preseason expectations, from magazines to SEC coaches and media, haven't been very high for the Florida Gators.
The SEC coaches selected just one Gator, RB Jeff Demps, to their first-team all conference team while the media selected no Gators to the first or second teams.
And the SEC media picked the Gators to finish third in the SEC East, sixth overall.
But some Gator players said they'll use the low preseason expectations as motivation.
"We're not too worried about that right now,'' senior QB John Brantley said during SEC Media Days last week. "We're just worried about what's happening today or whatever is going on at that moment. In a way, that puts a little chip on your shoulder, definitely. It makes you want to go out there and prove everyone wrong.''
Gator senior DE William Green echoed that sentiment.
"People are going to talk, they are going to hate, it's just what is is,'' Green said. "People don't think we're going to be any good. They think this guy's gone, that guy's gone. They are always more comfortable with names they recognize. But it's time for some new faces to step up and that's just how it's going to be this year.''
