Gators prepare to host Florida Relays this weekend
Two weeks after winning the NCAA men's indoor track and field national championship, Florida will showcase its best athletes in this weekend's 66th Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville.
The Pepsi Relays is one of the premier running events of the south.
Collegiate teams highlighting the meet include Alabama, Bethune-Cookman, Buffalo, Clemson, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and UCF.
The Gators enter the meet ranked No. 1 nationally on the men’s side and No. 4 on the women’s side, according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll released Wednesday.
“I’m really excited about this upcoming weekend,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “We’ve got one of the best fields we’ve had come in here in a long time. A lot of great post-collegians will be coming in here, plus all the Gators will be competing this weekend. This is a good chance for us to compete in front of our home crowd and we’re really looking forward to the competition.”
The Florida men’s 4x100-meter relay team is the defending SEC and NCAA Champion and will look to defend that title Saturday.
Gates open at 9 a.m. each day for the event’s 10 a.m. start. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
