Gators' shortstop earns weekly conference honor

Florida shortstop Nolan Fontana has been named this week's SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced today.

Fontana played a key role in Florida's four wins last week. He batted .385 (5-for-13) with five runs, three RBI and three walks in UF’s four wins without committing any errors. He hit .300 (3-for-10) with three walks and two runs against Georgia and went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and a home run in the 7-3 win over Sun Belt Conference leader Florida Atlantic.

Fontana is fourth on the squad with a .293 batting average, leads the team with 39 walks, is second in both runs (43) and stolen bases (9-for-13) and is third in doubles (12). He also has just one error in 214 chances for a fielding percentage of .995.
