Gators using bye week to heal
With a week off, Florida coach Urban Meyer said one of his biggest concerns is getting several key players healthy and allowing those that have battled the flu to rest and recover this week.
Junior C Maurkice Pouncey (shoulder) and RG Mike Pouncey (ankle) both sat out practice on Tuesday. RT Marcus Gilbert has an elbow contusion and DT Brandon Antwine suffered a shoulder injury in the Kentucky game that required further evaluation on Tuesday evening.
Meyer said he'll be cognizant of the injured and ill players' needs this week, but the Gators will conduct practices as they would any open week.
"We're pretty professional about making sure that the guys who play a lot of ball get healthy,'' Meyer said. "But then there's some guys, like the young receivers, like William Green, like some of these young players that have to get better. We do the same thing every bye week."
S Will Hill and CB Markihe Anderson are the latest sick players, but Meyer said both are expected to be fine and should practice today. DT Lawrence Marsh is still struggling with an ankle sprain.
"I think we're in pretty good shape overall,'' Meyer said. "Lawrence has had that ankle sprain, he's in his fifth week, and we need to try to get him back going on Monday. Ankle sprains, sometimes those things are four to six weeks. But we really need him.''
