Gators will close out spring practice this week without a clear starter at QB
Before spring football practice began, Florida coach Will Muschamp said he hoped either Jeff Driskel or Jacoby Brissett would emerge as the clear starting quarterback heading into fall camp.
But on Monday, Muschamp said the two had performed well this spring, but remain too close to call. So he does not expect to name a starter by the time spring football practice concludes with the Orange and Blue game on Saturday afternoon.
"Right now, it’s too close to call as far as the competition is concerned,'' Muschamp said.
Muschamp said the two get along well, and spend countless hours studying film and trying to improve.
"Honestly looking at going through the spring, I don’t know that we will name the starter after spring,'' he said. "We will go into fall camp (still undecided). That, to me, is becoming more and more evident every day. Both guys are guys we can win with, that’s the bottom line. And that’s good for us.''
The Gators' Saturday scrimmage was cut short by bad weather, and Muschamp said he hopes to get more scrimmage-type work accomplished in this afternoon's practice session.
Here he discusses Saturday's practice and the final week of spring practice.
