If Florida's Jeff Driskel starts, Jacoby Brissett will be backup QB

Florida coach Will Muschamp reiterated today that all three Gator quarterbacks are taking reps in practice this week, but if Jeff Driskel is named the starter, another freshman Jacoby Brissett will be the backup.

Driskel, who has been John Brantley's backup all season, has a slight advantage, the coaching staff says, because he's the only one of the three (also including sophomore Tyler Murphy) who has played.

"Jeff's got, obviously, ahead because of the playing experience, but we're repping all three guys for the game and preparing all three of those guys,'' Muschamp said today. "I feel very comfortable about our preparation to this point. Obviously today's a big day, we work in the red zone and third down, that'll be critical for all three.''

On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis said putting together this week's game plan is less difficult because it is centered around all three guys, not centered around Brantley with a few plays thrown in for his backup just in case. Muschamp agreed with that premise.

After the (Alabama) game, Charlie and I sat down and he said, 'I just don't know if we gave Jeff much of a chance because of the game plan and the experience that John has in running the offense', " Muschamp said. "It's tough when you're getting ready to play a defense like Alabama or LSU and you're preparing to have your starter play the game and then something happens and you've got to be able to adjust and adapt to the situation and do the best job for your football team. Certainly knowing the situation and the inexperience we have at the position and the preparation that goes into that and what we carry in the game is key.''
