Jeff Driskel preparing for new role in Gainesville

Incoming freshman QB Jeff Driskel will be on campus by this weekend, fresh off his performance in the Under Armour All-American game.

Driskel is among eight early enrollees, and he's also working hard to help keep the Gators' 2011 recruiting class intact as much as possible.

Driskel committed to UF under former head coach Urban Meyer, but he said his commitment has remained solid, and he's encouraging other recruits not to act hastily.

"Everyone was kind of on edge, but I texted everyone and told them not to make any irrational decisions," he said. "For the most part, we kept most of our guys and we're putting together a good recruiting class."

So far, Driskel likes what he's seen and heard from new head coach Will Muschamp and the incoming staff.

"I've spoken with Coach Muschamp quite a few times -- we didn't know each other at all and had to build that relationship," he said. "I feel like we have a good relationship now, and I'm looking forward to working with him and competing for a job. (Charlie Weis) is a big-time name and he's proven himself in college and in the pros."
