Jermaine Cunningham, ex-Gator Demps arrested
Starting defensive end Jermaine Cunningham, former Gator Jonathan Demps and former LSU football and track star Xavier Carter were all arrested early Wednesday morning after an altercation with an employee at a local sandwich shop at about 2:49 a.m.
The fight allegedly was over a bag of chips.
According to Gainesville Police Sgt. Art Adkins, an argument with the clerk broke out after the two were asked to pay for a bag of chips at Jimmy John's restaurant, 1724 W. University Ave.
"They became verbally abusive, struck the employee with empty soda cans and a sandwich, and then fled the store,'' Adkins said.
Carter and Cunningham were stopped by police across the street from campus, identified by the store employee, and arrested by GPD.
Demps was later stopped while walking on campus by a University Police Department officer, identified, and arrested.
All three were released on their own recognizance Wednesday morning, according to court records. All were ordered not to have contact with the alleged victim, and Carter was also ordered not to have contact with Demps or Cunningham.
