Joe Haden is first Gator selected in NFL draft



GYI_96144995_96144995CC052_ Florida CB Joe Haden is the first Gator to be selected in the 2010 NFL draft.

The Friendly, MD, native was the No. 7 overall pick, selected by the Cleveland Browns. He is the highest drafted CB in Florida history, ahead of Steve Tannen who was taken 20th overall in 1970 by the New York Jets. Haden is the third-highest defensive player the Gators have had drafted, and Florida's fourth defensive player to become an NFL top-10 draft pick in school history:

3rd Overall, 2001: Gerard Warren, Cleveland Browns
6th Overall, 1995: Kevin Carter, St. Louis Rams
7th Overall, 2010: Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns
8th Overall, 2008: Derrick Harvey, Jacksonville Jaguars

Haden is the 40th Gator to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft. Florida has had a first round pick in 11 of the past 14 years.
