John Brantley thrilled to finally take over Gators' top spot
Florida officially opened fall football practice at 5:55 a.m. today as quarterback John Brantley officially takes over at the helm. For Brantley, a redshirt junior, the start of fall practice is really nothing new.
With the exception of the fact that he's now leading the team.
"Three years I've done this, but it was a lot of fun to run out there and be with the 1's,'' Brantley said. "We look pretty good for the first day and I was really happy with it. We're as sharp as I think we're going to be for the first day. It's always tough when we all come together like that and the coaches are around and everything. I think everyone did a great job and we're just going to keep getting better from here on out.''
While the reality of it all hasn't really set in, Brantley said he's already realized that everything is different for him from here on out.
"Just knowing that I'm the guy, I've really got to step in there and lead the team,'' he said about the most important difference. "But having those playmakers around me makes it easier on myself, that's for sure. But it's definitely a different outlook on things right now knowing that I'm going to be that guy stepping on the field in that first game.''
