Jon Halapio finally finding his own way

rsz_halapio.jpgThis time last year, former St. Petersburg Catholic OL Jon Halapio wasn’t ashamed to say he was completely overwhelmed with the transition from high school to college football.

He wasn't in the shape he needed to be in, and dealing with the speed of college defenses and mastering the techniques of the position proved to be more difficult than he'd anticipated.

Today, the 6-foot-3, 312 pound Halapio is back at his natural right tackle position and with a year of experience, he’s hoping to make an impact on what is considered one of the Gators’ biggest strengths this season.

“I’m feeling real comfortable,” Halapio said. “Last year I was at left and it was kind of weird because my whole life I played the right side of the ball. Going to the left, it was a huge, huge difference for me at least. I feel comfortable on the right side.''

Halapio has gained nearly 10 pounds, but said he's in the best physical condition since he arrived.

"I’m feeling real good,'' he said. "Everything has changed - my whole mindset of the football game. Everything from the techniques of the defensive linemen to all kinds of zone pressure. I’ve learned a lot, Everything is going well right now.”
