Kentucky's Joker Phillips expecting same toughness from Gators
Kentucky coach Joker Phillips knows all about Florida's coaching staff changes and the Gators' new offensive and defensive philosophies, but when he looks at video of the Gators he doesn't see a much different team than last year.
"They haven't changed,'' said Phillips, now in his second year at Kentucky. "They're Florida. They have great athletes. They were in a transition last year, if you ask me - transition with the quarterback change. That was their transition. This quarterback has been the starter for two years. I don't consider it a transition.''
Kentucky ranks 92nd nationally in rushing offense, 108th in passing offense and 100th in scoring offense, so Phillips recognizes that Florida's defense poses a problem for the Wildcats.
"Defensively, they've always been really good,'' Phillips said. "They've always had great personnel. They've always had great personnel on offense as well. The special teams coordinator is the same as last year. Same philosophy. I think last year was the transition period. They got great players and a quarterback that's playing good for them also.''
Florida will play at Kentucky Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
