Mel Kiper, Jr. says Joe Haden's NFL future is bright
"He’s a potential top 5 corner in the NFL,'' Kiper, Jr. said. "If he’s going to be drafted that high, he’s going to be expected .. .We don’t know he's going to be Darrelle Revis; you didn’t know Darrelle Revis was going to be Darrelle Revis when he was drafted - he went what, 16th in the first round, not in the top 5 of 10. Haden’s going to go higher than Revis did. Haden’s going to go higher than (Nnamdi) Asomugha who was a late first round pick out of Cal to the Oakland Raiders. Those are your only two tdown corners in the league and they didn’t go in the top 10. So Haden will go in the top 10 with potential to be an elite corner. He’s got a lot of skills. Going up against guys like Louis Murphy and even Percy Harvin some, certainly Riley Cooper this year has helped him in addition to the receivers he faces in the SEC like an A.J. Green and a Julio Jones and others.''
Kiper, Jr., said what makes Haden so special is his ability to do many things well at his position.
"This is a kid with a lot of talent,'' he said. "You’re talking about a complete corner. He can get you on the blitz, he’s very effective on the corner blitz. Good tackler. Outstanding in coverage. Joe Haden would be a real good pick at no. 7. I think he’s the fifth best player on the board. He could even be rated as the fourth best player on some teams’ boards. (behind Ndamakong Suh, Colt McCoy and Eric Berry). . . You could argue he’s the fourth best player.''
