Mike Pouncey fine with facing the music
Florida center Mike Pouncey was the center of football conversations all week long following his shaky performance last weekend against Miami (Ohio).
Pouncey said he had three errant snaps that resulted in fumbles. I counted four. UF coach Urban Meyer said he wasn't sure how many. And ESPN said he had 13, as analyst Mark May added he felt he should have been benched.
"Thirteen?,'' Pouncey said. "If I played that bad, golly. He might need to get his eyesight checked. I don't think it was 13. I rolled three of them back, Johnny (Brantley) dropped a couple of them and we just turned the ball over too much. 13 snaps, I don't know what game he is watching.''
Regardless of how many, I commend Pouncey for showing up at all of his media obligations this week, taking any and all questions about his performance, and even sharing the contents of a text he received from his brother Maurkice, now with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"He said the guys up there (in Pittsburgh) we're joking on my snaps,'' Mike Pouncey said. "He told me Tomlin (Mike, Pittsburgh head coach) said 'Just tell him to keep playing like that, we'll take him by the end of the first round.''
As he prepares to prove to the nation the bad snaps are in the past, here's Pouncey in his own words about what went wrong.
