New concept among postseason bowls brings gifts to players
There was once a time when players who participated in bowl games arrived on site wondering what type of gifts they would receive from the bowl committee.
Not anymore. These days, the gifts come to some players long before the game.
According to a story in Sports Business Journal, at least a dozen bowl committees will set up “gift suites” over the next four weeks, giving visiting players, coaches and VIPs the opportunity to choose their game memorabilia from a variety of items, rather than just present them with a box of goodies when they check into the team hotel.
The Allstate Sugar Bowl, in which Florida will play Cincinnati, is expected to set up an on-campus room with Sony electronics, Trek mountain bikes, Lane recliners, Weber grills, Garmin GPS systems and Apple iPods, according to the story by David Broughton.
