No. 6 Florida lacrosse puts 12-game streak on line tonight against No. 2 Northwestern
The sixth-ranked Florida lacrosse team will close out its home season tonight at 6:30 with a conference showdown against No. 2 Northwestern.
Both teams are riding 12-game winning streaks and undefeated in American Lacrosse Conference play. The winner will receive the No. 1 seed in the ALC Tournament - tonight’s game would be a tiebreaker if the teams end league play with identical records.
The Gators are looking to avenge a 19-5 loss in Florida’s first-ever game against Northwestern last season.
Florida is in the midst of a strong season, having outscored opponents 186-95 since its overtime loss to then-No. 3 North Carolina - its only defeat of the season. Sophomore Kitty Cullen leads the nation in goals (61) and goals per game (4.69), and ranks third in overall points scored (66) and points per game (5.08).
Northwestern is 12-0 this season and has defeated 10 ranked opponents out of the 12 the Wildcats have faced. Northwestern
has outscored ranked foes 153-89. The Wildcats are first in win percentage, fourth in scoring margin (7.08) and fourth in scoring
offense (15.83). Northwestern's goalkeeper, Brianne LoManto, is 10th in the nation in goals against average (8.12) and 14th in save percentage (.486).
